How does the Food Card program work?

The Food Card is part of the Argentina Against Hunger project, which aims to support vulnerable Argentine families in accessing basic food supplies.

The program is administered by the Ministry of Social Development of the Nation and the benefit is granted through data available at ANSES.

That is, the selection process is automatic; no formalities are required, unless you are not registered with ANSES, in which case you must do so.

Since this is an automatic implementation, the beneficiary is notified by the responsible government agency, who can pick up the card at the bank designated for each province.

The card can be used to purchase all types of food, not only in supermarkets but also in other types of stores.

However, it should not be used to purchase alcoholic beverages, nor can it be used for cash withdrawals.

Then, check your balance on the website: tarjetaalimentaria.argentina.gob.ar. To check your balance, you'll need your DNI number.

When do I get paid for my food card?

Payment is made to the same account and on the date the beneficiary receives the benefit.
Follow the monthly calendar published by ANSES for the following programs:
● Family Allowance per Child or Universal Allowance per Child;
● Pregnancy allowance;
● Prenatal Care and Maternity Assistance;
● Single Payment Scholarships: marriage, adoption and birth;
● Non-contributory pensions;
● Family Allowances for Non-Contributory Pensions.
It should be noted that not all beneficiaries of the aforementioned programs are entitled to the Food Card, only:

  1. Families receiving Universal Child Allowance with children up to 14 years old;
  2. Pregnant women from the third month onwards who receive the Pregnancy Subsidy for Social Protection;
  3. People with disabled children who receive Universal Child Allowance, without age limit;
  4. Non-contributory receiving mothers for mother of 7 children.

What is the value of the Food Card?

The amount varies according to the benefit received by the person, with families with three or more children receiving the most, to be exact $25,000.

Families with one child and pregnant women covered by the Pregnancy Subsidy receive $12,500. Those with two children receive $19,000.
